The useful answer is a method for finding the hardest current playable chart for your goal.
The official experience advertises close to 4,000 songs across several difficulties. That makes any fixed top-ten list fragile, especially while the game remains in beta.
Define what “hardest” means
Choose the reason a chart is difficult before ranking it:
Reading density
Many notes or rapid pattern changes arrive with little time to identify them.
Execution
Jacks, repeated alternation, chords, holds, or transitions demand precise finger movement.
Key count
Six or more lanes require additional bindings, fingers, and visual scanning.
Presentation
Camera motion, flashing, events, special visuals, or interface changes compete with chart reading.
Endurance
Long duration or sustained density makes concentration and relaxed technique difficult to maintain.
Challenge rules
Higher rate, visibility changes, randomization, or another modifier adds difficulty beyond the base chart.
A chart can be hardest for accuracy but not survival, hardest on mobile but manageable on keyboard, or hardest only with a specific modifier. Label that context every time.
Verify the exact chart in game
Open the current selector and record song, tab or mod, selected difficulty, key count, and any visible chart author or version. Confirm the chart loads. If the song appears only in an old video or list, mark its current availability as unknown rather than ranking it.
Do not merge several difficulties under one row. A song can contain a beginner chart and an extreme chart. If the live selector changes a title or moves it to another tab, keep the current name with the date checked.
Build a personal difficulty index
For each attempted chart, record these fields:
Rank only charts you have actually attempted under comparable settings. Leave unknown fields blank.
Test hard charts safely
Project: Afternight warns about flashing lights, screen shakes, and jumpscares. Check Songs with Events before using a visually intense chart as a benchmark. Stop when presentation causes discomfort, and do not treat tolerating an unsafe effect as a skill requirement.
Warm up on a manageable chart, verify every bind, then attempt the hard chart without optional modifiers. Note the first section where reading fails. Return to a similar but easier pattern or lower difficulty before trying again. Repeatedly failing in the opening seconds is not efficient practice.
Separate high-key difficulty
A 6K chart is not automatically harder than every four-lane chart, but it asks for a different control map and scanning width. Rank high-key charts within their own lane count until your additional fingers are reliable. Comparing a new six-lane layout with years of four-lane practice mostly measures familiarity.
On touch screens, reach and visual obstruction can dominate chart difficulty. On controller, available button mapping matters. On desktop, keyboard rollover and wrist position matter. Include the device in any recommendation.
Add modifiers only after the base clear
Modifiers confirmed by official Badge descriptions include Fade In, Fade Out, Inverse Notes, Random Note Scale, Randomize Chart, Random Scroll Invert, and Speed Up on Miss. Their presence can radically change the task. Do not publish a “hardest song” result with modifiers as if it represents the base chart.

Evaluate improvement correctly
Use three measures: how far you survive, how accurately you time readable notes, and how consistently you repeat the result. A lucky completion is useful but not proof of mastery. A lower-difficulty Full Combo may reveal stronger control than barely surviving an extreme chart.
When the same passage causes failure, name its demand: dense stream, repeated lane, chord transition, additional key, visibility event, or endurance. Practice that demand. When failure moves randomly from section to section, reduce difficulty and rebuild consistency.
Why video rankings disagree
Video titles are strong signals that players care about extreme charts, not verified difficulty data. Recordings may use an old chart, different difficulty, custom settings, autoplay, a private build, or a dramatic title. Watch for the selector, key count, modifiers, date, and full result before using a video as a route lead.
No view count or creator claim establishes an official tier. The current game and a reproducible comparison are what matter.
A responsible hardest-chart shortlist
Your shortlist should show exact chart identity, lane count, difficult pattern, event warning, device tested, base or modified status, result, checked date, and current availability. Omit any claimed note count, rate, or difficulty value you cannot see in the live interface.
